Remmers RM Medium Grain – Mineral Stone Substitution Mortar

Remmers RM is a professional mineral stone substitution mortar designed for the restoration, repair and reprofiling of mineral building materials. The Medium Grain version has a maximum grain size of 0.5mm and is suitable for repairing and rebuilding damaged areas of natural stone, brick, concrete and synthetic stone.

RM is particularly suited to conservation and refurbishment work where damaged or missing sections of mineral building materials need to be carefully rebuilt while maintaining the appearance and character of the original structure. It can also be used to reproduce ornamental building elements using a tamping procedure.

The mortar has a low free alkali content, good adhesion to the sides of repair areas and low inherent stress. UV-resistant pigments help provide consistent colour, and the material can be made hydrophobic where required.

The Normal strength version has a compressive strength of less than 13 N/mm², making it suitable for a wide range of mineral stone repair and reprofiling applications.

Key Features
Medium Grain – 0.5mm

This version of Remmers RM has a maximum grain size of 0.5mm, providing a versatile finish for general stone restoration and reprofiling work.

The final appearance of the repaired area will depend on the application and finishing method. Remmers recommends carrying out a trial area before starting the main repair, particularly where colour and texture matching are important.

Application
The substrate should be clean, dust-free and capable of supporting the repair. Any necessary cleaning should be carried out as gently as possible to avoid further damage to the existing material.

Pre-wet the substrate before application and apply a contact layer of approximately 2mm using grout. Apply the RM mortar wet-on-wet onto the contact layer in layers of approximately 15–30mm, leaving the repair around 1–2mm proud of the intended finished surface.

Once sufficiently hardened, the surface can be roughened or scraped back to the final profile and worked into the surrounding material using suitable tools.

Allow at least 24 hours between subsequent layers where additional build-up is required. Protect freshly applied mortar from frost, rain and excessively rapid drying for at least four days.

Coverage
Approximate consumption is 1.6kg per litre of cavity volume.
Actual consumption will depend on the size and depth of the repair and the condition of the substrate. A trial area should be carried out to establish the precise quantity required.

Important Information
- Remmers RM should not be used on gypsum-based substrates.
- The final colour after drying and hardening can vary depending on ambient conditions, application and finishing method. Slight colour differences between batches are also possible.
- Always carry out a trial area before beginning the main repair.

Storage
Store unopened in a dry location. When stored correctly in the original unopened container, the product has a shelf life of approximately 12 months.
